After a prolonged delay in my visa processing, I arrived in Glasgow, Scotland last week to begin my internship at Whyte & Mackay. On that note, I recommend that anyone applying for a work visa in the UK begin the process as soon as possible due to the extended wait (even when filing an expedited application).
Whyte & Mackay is a subsidary of Mumbai-based United Breweries, Ltd. & is a leading producer of scotch whisky (both blended & single malt) in the UK & several other international markets. Beyond the production of branded & private label whiskys & liquers, W&M also owns the distribution rights to Russian Standard vodka in the UK.
My role is in the Global Marketing Department & I've already begun working on several projects for W&M brands in the UK, Spain & Canada. I began my internship on the week when annual brand planning meetings took place over the course of two days at an off-site location. Attending meetings with co-workers & workshops with consultants was a great way to learn the brands & the challenges that the Global Marketing team was facing, as well as get to know everyone in the department. I'm looking forward to the work ahead of me & will be travelling to Edinburgh for at least 2 days this week in connection with one of the projects that's specific to the urban market in Scotland.
