What an exciting time to be a GMBA at Sawyer business school. I hope everyone has a great experience this summer. I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s experience.
I’m interning at JFP holdings, which is an investment bank in Beijing. I can’t write about my work, so I’ll focus on my experiences throughout the summer.
I didn't waste any time when I got to Beijing. I wondered around the “hutongs” which are alley ways throughout Beijing. One minute you’ll be walking down a quiet residential area and the next turn will land you at a row of bars. It’s very interesting and fun to explore. The first night I decided to be brave and try the local street cuisine. It seemed like a good idea at the time and the food taste great. However, the next morning I realized it was a bad idea. I didn’t build up the necessary iron stomach to tackle the street food. My office is full of bright and outgoing people. I report to the Vice President and my first day was not used to “ease in”. Instead I received an external hard drive full of documents I needed to review and get up to speed on. I jumped right into a project and was given a lot of responsibility.
Stay safe everyone and good luck with your internships! You’ll hear from me soon (whether you like it or not).
